Volunteering with Us
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us! Our volunteers are crucial for our programs and help in many aspects of our organization. You do not have to be an expert in ballroom dancing but you must be passionate and dedicated to our mission.
Currently, there are 2 ways you can help:
Volunteer at our Tea Dance Socials
We host Tea Dance socials once to twice a month in our midtown studio where we invite those affected by dementia and their caregivers for an afternoon of dancing. You will be responsible in setting up and cleaning up the event, as well as assisting our professional dance artists in guiding our participants in social engagement and activity.
Volunteer at our off-site social sessions
We currently are partnered with five assisted living facilities and adult day centers throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. We travel to our centers to provide social dance sessions. You will be responsible in assisting our instructors with incorporating different elements of dance to connect with all of our adults.
How do I become a volunteer?
The first step is to fill out our online volunteer application, which you can find below. Once we have received your application, you will be contacted through email to set up a meeting with us, so we can get to know each other better. After which you will complete our volunteer orientation (please allow 2-4 weeks for processing)
Is there an age requirement to volunteer?
Yes. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
What is the time commitment?
The time commitment depends on which program you chose:
- For Tea Dance Volunteers, we require 2-3 hours each month during our events.
- For Session Volunteers, we require at least 1 session per week. Please note that depending on where you live and how far you are from our partnering centers, it may take up to 2-3 hours a week.
There is a 6-month commitment for either program.
How soon after orientation can I begin volunteering?
Right away! After you’ve completed orientation, you are all set to attend sessions and dance away!
Can I bring my family member or friend to volunteer with me?
No. As much as we appreciate their interest in our programs, all our volunteers are required to go through our training program. This is for the safety of everyone.
